West End Show
Whether you're visiting the capital on a short break or a resident Londoner looking for some fresh entertainment, a dinner and West End Show package is guaranteed to provide a fun-filled night out for all.
Thriller Live, which celebrates the phenomenal musical career of the undisputed King of Pop, Michael Jackson, does not fail to deliver. The show, created by Flying Music in association with Adrian Grant, charts the songs that have defined the late singer’s tumultuous life, now made all the more iconic following his recent untimely death.
Beginning with his early days in The Jackson Five, the show kick-starts with a string of classic Motown hits including I Want You Back, Blame it on the Boogie, and ABC. Belted out by a fantastic young impersonation Jackson, these opening performances celebrate a vivid sense of seventies disco nostalgia.
It is in the second half of the show though, that the performances really come into their own, effectively building up to the visual climax of Thriller itself and some notable final encores. A personal favourite was Smooth Criminal, complete with near-perfect imitation dance moves and an impressive moon-walking lookalike – so much so it is hard to believe he is not up there on the stage himself.
Whilst the show is undoubtedly a retrospective of Jackson's recording career, it does not try and offer a biography of his life, or a straight-forward impersonation from beginning to end. Instead, the production is all about the music, featuring unrivaled tribute performances from a diverse cast of different shapes and sizes, both male and female, young and old. Of particular mention is former X-Factor contestant, Maria Lawson, who provides some excellent lead vocals throughout.
By the time the iconic Thriller dance is recreated on stage, the entire audience is up singing and dancing with the cast – an electrifying performance which entirely captures the essence of this dazzling musical.
No show is complete, however, without a mouth-watering meal at one of London’s many hip restaurants. Navajo Joe, in nearby Covent Garden, provides guests with delicious yet unpretentious fare in its funky former warehouse surroundings.
This unique venue offers an extensive drinks menu ranging from infusion cocktails to London's largest collection of rums, tequilas and wines. Combined with its vast menu of classic south-western cuisine, from traditional fajitas to their more unusual sea bass red curry, Navajo Joe will not fail to fill a hole before, or after, the Thriller Live experience.
