Everyday a lot of tourists visit Asakusa where is one of the popular visiting spots in Tokyo. Asakusa has many local shops, but I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite shop. Even if you already have been to Asakusa or if you are thinking about going there anytime soon, I highly recommend for you to stop by this shop!

Have you heard of “Melon-pan” (Melon Bread)? Melon is not used as an ingredient, but it is shaped like a half melon. When you go to a bakery shop in Japan, you will often find original Melon-pan with various tastes and shapes.

I always loved Melon-pan ever since I was little, and my favorite is “Kagetsudou” which is right in front of Senso-ji, Asakusa. The Melon-pan is hard on the outside but very soft inside…so tasty! The reason for this is that where as other bakeries ferment only for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs, Kagetsudou ferment for 3 hrs at a low temperature.

Being so popular, there is usually a line, and even if there is no line, it is very likely that Melon-pan is sold out. It is hard to be there at the right timing, but even if you have to wait in a line for a while, it is totally worth it. The price is 170 yen a piece and 450 yen for 3 pieces. I always buy 3.

Other than Melon-pan, they also have 33 different flavors of soft cream, so please stop by if you happen to be in Asakusa.
