A Windermere self catering & marina business has filmed a “romantic reconstruction,” for Valentine’s Day featuring the heart-warming love story of a pair of staying guests.

The couple in their early 30s, were staying at Windermere Marina Village at Bowness and had a break in the area where they took dozens of precious photos of their engagement weekend - but then lost their camera on the last day of their stay.

The couple, who had never been to the Lake District before, fell in love with the area and using their camera had documented almost every aspect of their stay - from sunset barbecues and breakfasts on their balcony, to the boyfriend springing a surprise engagement on a romantic viewpoint above Lake Windermere.

He had concealed the ring and set up a hidden camera to record the reaction of his partner to his proposal….but in the ensuing celebrations he managed to leave the precious camera behind containing all the images.Both were distraught and despite attempts to retrace their steps it was to no avail. However, the story had a happy ending when a dog walker found the camera and scrolled through the images.

Realising they had stayed at Windermere Marina Village, he handed it in at reception and it was reunited with the happy couple before they left. Staff at the Marina were so touched by their guests very own love story and the public spiritedness of the camera finder, they decided to create a “romantic reconstruction,” telling the couple’s story to promote romantic breaks in the Lakes. Although the couple want to remain anonymous, a real-life couple from the Lake District stepped in to play their roles and stayed at the Marina – reliving their entire weekend from start to finish. The couple are played by Kendal couple Ian Wood and Rachel Heyworth. Ian is a professional photographer and Rachel a hairdresser at Daniel Gray in the town. The film was shot by Kendal-based commercial photographer and film-maker Ben Barden, while the soundtrack “Sweeter,” is by Kendal Singer songwriter Pete Lashley. The film was produced by Ellis Butcher.

Jason Dearden, of Windermere Marina Village, said: “The couple had a perfect romantic stay here in the Lakes until they lost their camera. Thankfully, because of the community spirit and kindness of people in this area, the camera was handed in.

“We were looking at how we could show what a special place the Marina is for making memories and the couple's story was a perfect example of that. Its also a way of expressing our thanks to the person who returned their camera.
