Traveling in the Sunshine State: Touring Florida
In reality, there really is no travel destination as stunning and enthralling than is the State of Florida. The Sunshine State has such an array of different opportunities for the holiday or vacation traveler that a person really would have to bunk up in the state for an extended period of time to even begin to see and do everything that is available and offered from shore to shore in Florida.
At this point in time, a significant percentage of visitors to Florida find themselves flocking to the southeast coast of the state. While there are dozens of destinations in South Florida which attract people from all walks of like, the three major destinations of choice in that part of the state are Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and the Miami and Miami Beach area.
When it comes to gracious living and visiting, Palm Beach is incomparable. For generations, Palm Beach really has been the playground of the rich and famous. The island is home to some of the toniest shops and boutiques to be found anywhere in the world, many of them located along comely Worth Avenue. Of course, the island also is home to a couple dozen remarkable restaurants and bistros. The crown jewel of Palm Beach for any visitor is the fantastic Breakers Hotel. Rebuilt in the 1920s after a devastating fire, the Breakers is one of the premier hotels in all of North America.
Of course, not every person's budget can afford the costs associated with a stay in Palm Beach. This particularly is the case when travel is planned to South Florida during the peak tourist (and snowbird) season that runs from about Thanksgiving through mid-April each year. However, a traveler can zip across the causeway and find more reasonable priced accommodations in West Palm or in some of the other satellite communities that surrounding Palm Beach itself.
Less than an hour south of Palm Beach is Ft. Lauderdale. Oftentimes considered a cliché spring break destination, Ft. Lauderdale really is so much more. Lauderdale is home to some of the most incredible beaches in all of South Florida. In addition, the city is lined with placid canals which gives the community a bit of a European flare and flavor.
Beach front bistros are popular both in and out of season. In addition, there are lively nightclubs to be found along A1A (the beach side drive) not far from Las Olas Boulevard intersection. Las Olas itself is lined with great restaurants and some of the best stores and shops to be found in the city.
Heading less than another hour south, a visitor will end up in Miami and Miami Beach. These conjoined communities have garnered a remarkable amount of attention in films and television programs over the course of the past twenty years. Both venues are remarkable locations for a person interested in an entertaining stay in Florida. Nightclubs, restaurants, beaches abound in both Miami and Miami Beach.
No visit to the Miami area is complete without a stop in the fashionable art deco district of South Beach. Home to fashionable boutique hotels in pastel colors, South Beach has a truly cosmopolitan flavor. Cuban, Caribbean and other influences have had a strong impact on the nightlife and cultural scene at South Beach.
The beach at South Beach is a delight. Despite the fact that South Beach has garnered something of a reputation for being a place where people who spend tremendous amounts of time at the gym flock for fun, the shore at South Beach draws an incredibly diverse crowd. There actually is a welcoming feel to the whole South Beach district – drawing in part from its bohemian past of not that many years ago to its eclectic vibe of today.
If shopping is your bag (so to speak) the legendary "Miracle Mile" in Miami proper is one of the most exclusive and expansive shopping districts in the U.S. Everything from big name designers to trendy up and coming clothing creators can be found along the Miracle Mile in Miami.
Overall, when it comes to a South Florida trip, the water obviously is a fantastic and major draw. There are many different types of excursions that you can take on the water from sailing jaunts to sport fishing trips. In addition, if you are so inclined, there are gambling boats that make their way up and down the coastline day in and day out.
When it comes to booking a flight to South Florida, you will want to check out fares and availabilities for the airports at West Palm, Hollywood and Miami. Access to all of the South Florida hot spots easily can be had from anyone of this trio of airports. The airfares can differ pretty significantly from one airport to the next and by taking the time to shop around in this regard you likely will be able to latch onto some great airfares, even during the prime winter travel months.
While anyone of these South Florida destinations are fine for families on the go, the truth is that most traveling families are attracted to Central Florida and the Orlando area. Orlando is home to the Disney theme parks and Universal Studios as well as some other family oriented venues. The truth is that some of the most lasting memories that people carry throughout their lives are of those times spent enjoying everything that there is to offer at these incomparable amusement parks.
Beyond Disney and Universal, Church Street Station remains an interesting area for anyone visiting Orlando. Church Street is home to enjoyable restaurants, fun nightclubs as well as some points of historic interest. There are some attempts being made at the present time to further develop this entertainment district in Orlando.
If you are looking for reasonable digs to stay at when it the Orlando area, you will want to check out the hotels and motels in Kissimmee. In this Orlando bedroom community you will be able to find a solid selection of hotels and motels in a good price range.
